Job Bank and the Occupational and Skills Information System (OaSIS)
occupational-skills-information-systemThe Occupational and Skills Information System (OaSIS) provides a comprehensive framework of the skills, abilities, personal attributes, knowledge, and interests that are usually required to work in over 900 different Canadian occupations. It also provides context for the work environment in which these occupations are performed.
The framework of OaSIS is informed by the Skills and Competencies Taxonomy (SCT). The SCT has been developed at Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and it streamlines the terminology pertaining to individual characteristics, job requirements and the work environment.
On Job Bank, OaSIS data is used alongside other sources to provide information about most occupations in Canada at the national, provincial and regional level. More specifically, OaSIS data is integrated in Job Profiles to give an overview of the following aspects of each occupation:
- Job descriptions (work week duration, physical demands, workplaces and employers, work environment, etc.)
- Required competencies (skills, personal attributes, interests, knowledge, etc.)
