The federal, provincial, and municipal governments are providing $7.5M for a wastewater treatment plant in Smithers.
JX LNG, the Alberta-based subsidiary of Changchun Jixing New Energy Ltd., has proposed a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant that would send LNG in special ISO containers to Prince Rupert by rail for export to Asia. The proposal is now undergoing environmental assessment by B.C. and would not require a new pipeline, only an upgrade to the existing Enbridge Westcoast Pipeline.
Artemis Gold's Blackwater Gold mine may offer new employment opportunities 165 km southwest of Prince George. Construction is well underway with 550 workers involved, and continual operations will require 300 full time workers. The mine is expected to have a 22-year lifetime and anticipates operations beginning summer 2024.
Atlantic Power has given notice that their Williams Lake power plant could shut down by mid-January 2025 unless the lack of available fibre is addressed. Approximately 28 direct and 100 indirect employees are at risk.
