Director of Engineering Location: Vancouver, BC Company: Inverted AI (IAI) Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) About Inverted AI Inverted AI is on the "Path to True Autonomy". While current leaders in the space still rely on real-time remote operators or limited driver supervision, we are building the decision engine required for the next generation of autonomous systems. Our Imagining The Road Ahead? (ITRA) Framework provides the data, scenarios, and validation software needed to move the industry to true autonomy. By leveraging proprietary drone-captured data from over 30 countries and world-class predictive models, we empower autonomous vehicle (AV)/ advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) developers to train, verify, and drive AV systems with our comprehensive product suite. The Role As the Director of Engineering, you will lead the technical execution of our product suite, ensuring the seamless integration and scaling of our products: ITRA Planner, ITRA Verify, ITRA Synthetic Logs, ITRA Real Logs, and ITRA Cloud APIs. You will oversee a high-performing team of engineers working at the intersection of deep generative modeling, high-performance simulation, and cloud-native infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership: Manage and scale our engineering department, fostering a culture of technical excellence, rapid iteration, and high-comfort delivery. Product Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end development of the ITRA Suite, including the high-performance TorchDriveSim (capable of 22 hours of replay per GPU hour) and our suite of Cloud APIs (INITIALIZE, DRIVE, SCENARIO, BLAME). Infrastructure & Scaling: Drive the architecture and scalability of our cloud-based scenario editor and orchestration tools, leveraging a massive library of over 400M concrete scenarios. Strategic Integration: Partner with customers (OEMs and Tier-1 Suppliers) to ensure our products rapidly integrate into their stacks. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Research team to operationalize research ML models and ensure they provide world-class verification and driving behavior in production environments. Required Skills & Qualifications Education: Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline; Master?s degree or higher preferred. Leadership: Proven track record as a hands-on engineering leader, you have built and shipped production AI and software systems both as an individual contributor and leader. Technical Depth: Extensive experience in software engineering, with a strong preference for backgrounds in PyTorch, Hydra, and cloud infrastructure (Docker, AWS/GCP). AV/AI Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of the AV stack (Perception, Prediction, Planning, V&V) and familiarity with standards like Lanelet2 HD maps. Scalable Simulation: Experience building or managing large-scale simulators or synthetic data generation (SDG) pipelines. Performance Optimization: Proven track record of optimizing high-performance compute (TOPS) for onboard planning and control. Academic/Research Literacy: Ability to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research (e.g., CVPR workshop papers on object placement distribution) and production-ready code. Our Toolset Simulator: TorchDriveSim (PyTorch native, MIT License). Reporting: Weights & Biases (W&B) integration for V&V reporting. Data: 3M+ kilometers driving data. Why Join Us? Inverted AI offers the opportunity to define the "decision engine" that computes the correct solution for every autonomous scenario. You will be at the forefront of the adoption of AVs, partnering with industry giants like NVIDIA, AMD, TI, Toyota, Synopsis, and more to dominate the AV market through real and synthetic safety-critical training.
