*Position Overview:*
We are seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven *Senior Accountant* to lead day-to-day accounting operations and drive financial excellence within our organization. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with *ASPE standards*, managing month-end and year-end close processes, and supporting the annual external audit.
As a key contributor to the finance team, the Senior Accountant will collaborate with cross-functional departments on *budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis*, while providing actionable insights into financial performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards, leadership experience, and a proactive approach to identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
* Prepare accurate and timely *monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements* in compliance with ASPE standards.
* Manage and lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
* Coordinate and support the *annual external audit process*, including preparation of all supporting documentation.
* Prepare and file required tax submissions, including *GST, payroll, and corporate income tax* filings.
* Collaborate with operational teams to drive accurate budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis.
* Analyze financial reports, identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement, and recommend corrective actions.
* Mentor, guide, and provide support to junior accounting staff, fostering professional growth and strong teamwork.
* Enhance and maintain internal controls, ensuring financial accuracy and safeguarding company assets.
* Act as a resource to senior leadership, offering critical insights to improve decision-making and financial strategy.
*Qualifications & Skills:*
* *Bachelor?s degree* in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* *CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant)* designation is required.
* Minimum *5+ years* of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
* Strong understanding of *Canadian accounting standards* (ASPE) and best practices.
* Advanced proficiency in *Microsoft Excel* (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling) and experience working with accounting systems; familiarity with *Eclipse* is considered an asset.
* Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Proven *analytical and problem-solving skills* with a demonstrated ability to identify issues and recommend solutions.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels.
* Experience with *internal controls*, financial reporting processes, and audit preparation.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
