This position requires skilled work involving the inspection, maintenance and repair of pumps, and related mechanical equipment in the City?s water, sewer and drainage system, as well as pressure reducing valves in the City?s water system. The position reads and interprets instruments and gauges, and maintains records. Considerable independence of action and judgment is exercised in the routine day-to-day work of the position, while situations involving major repairs are approved by a supervisor. The position reports to the Superintendent, Utilities, who oversees maintenance and servicing schedules and periodically checks work for conformance to desired standards, adherence to strict safety precautions and achievement of objectives such as, the operational efficiency of pumps, valves and hydrants, cleanliness of equipment and maintenance of clear and accurate records. The Pumps & PRV Maintenance Person may give some direction to labourers or others in work related to the duties of this position.Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Maintains pumps, related equipment, plus valve systems in accordance with the set schedule of the preventative maintenance program; and makes repairs of a minor nature to pumps, valves and related equipment. Maintains works records and prepares related reports for submission to the supervisor. Provides written estimates for the requisition of parts, supplies or services to the supervisor. Monitors, reads and interprets instruments and gauges; operates and inspects meters, valves, hydrants and pumping stations, both onsite and through the City?s SCADA system. Assist tradespersons or supervisors in related work. Advises supervisors of contract service requirements as required. Ensures that safety regulations and procedures are applied at all times in areas related to the duties of the position. Performs related work as required.The successful candidate for this position will have: Class 5 Driver?s License for the Province of British Columbia. EOCP Water Distribution Level Il or equivalent. EOCP Wastewater Collection Level II or equivalent. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of pumps and valves. Sound knowledge of the regulations, safety precautions and objectives of mechanical maintenance and repairs. Demonstrated ability to prepare and maintain clear concise reports and work records. Demonstrated ability to identify pump and valve problems, to plan and execute minor repairs, and to maintain units to ensure they are operating in an economical and efficient manner. Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of sewer, drainage and water maintenance equipment in the utilities system.Why should you consider working for us?
