*Job Summary:*
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Architectural Technologist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial and residential drawings and permit submissions, with an in-depth knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and the ability to research and interpret zoning bylaws. As a key member of our team, you will play an essential role in preparing accurate and detailed architectural and structural designs, liaising with various stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with building codes and zoning regulations.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* *Commercial/Residential Drawings & Permit Submissions*:
Prepare and review drawings for building permit submissions, ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements and specifications.
* *Code & Zoning Compliance*:
Have a strong understanding of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), municipal zoning bylaws, and local planning regulations. Review and interpret zoning bylaws, researching applicable codes to ensure designs meet legal and safety standards.
* *Design & Technical Support*:
Provide technical support to architects, engineers, and project managers throughout the design and construction phases. Produce detailed technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
* *Project Coordination & Communication*:
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders (including clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies) to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects.
* *Self-driven Problem Solving*:
Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills by identifying design challenges early, proposing viable solutions, and ensuring that all designs comply with relevant regulations.
* *Documentation & Reporting*:
Maintain accurate project documentation, including plans, reports, and permit applications, ensuring proper record-keeping and consistency throughout the design process.
* *Zoning Bylaws Research*:
Regularly conduct research on municipal zoning bylaws, land-use regulations, and building codes to ensure all projects are compliant and feasible. Assist in assessing the feasibility of proposed sites for development.
* *Quality Control & Review*:
Conduct regular quality control checks on drawings and submissions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
* *Client & Consultant Liaison*:
Communicate with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities regarding technical and compliance-related questions or issues. Assist in resolving any discrepancies or challenges that arise during the design and approval process.
*Qualifications:*
* *Education*:
* Diploma or Degree in Architectural Technology, Architecture, or a related field.
* *Experience*:
* Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as an Architectural Technologist, with a focus on commercial projects and building permit submissions.
* Strong experience in preparing drawings for permit applications, preferably in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
* *Knowledge & Skills*:
* Comprehensive understanding of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and its application to commercial and residential projects.
* Familiarity with municipal zoning bylaws and the ability to research and interpret them.
* Proficient in architectural design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and/or similar programs.
* Solid understanding of construction processes, materials, and building systems.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.
* *Additional Skills*:
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Knowledge of building permit processes and procedures.
* Experience in creating construction documents for permit approval and understanding the approval processes in various municipalities.
