The City?s Engineering, Parks and Environment Department has an opportunity for a regular full-time Planning Assistant to join our Environment and Park Planning Division working with the Park Planning team. Reporting to the Section Manager, Environment and Park Planning, you will support the team in technical, and administrative work. In this role, you will perform tasks related to park planning and design, policy development, bylaw amendments, and project delivery. Work responsibilities include preparing research reports, developing and conducting data collection, data synthesis and analysis including databases and statistics, creating presentation and graphic material, and assisting with creating public engagement material and support for engagement events. Work may also involve field visits in relation to the work required. You will work with staff across various departments, liaise with external contacts, and respond to public inquiries. You will assist and support in the development of key initiatives such as the Parks and Public Space Comprehensive Plan, Commemoration Policy, and delivery of the park capital projects that include both urban and natural area parks. You will have post-secondary education and courses in a relevant field such as landscape architecture, planning, urban design, environmental studies, civil engineering, geography or related discipline with sound related experience in municipal planning, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the practices, principles, methods and procedures applicable to environment and park planning is also required. Familiarity with the City?s environment and park policies would be an asset. You will be a dynamic, results-oriented professional with strong organizational, relationship-building, communication, and customer service skills, and have experience working with community members. You are a creative thinker and able to communicate and synthesize information effectively through graphics, graphs, maps, reports, presentations and other formats. You will be highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and independently apply Adobe Creative Suite (such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) or other data visualization software to support project graphic needs. Salary:$37.58 - $44.22 per hour + benefits(Pay Grade 21 - January 2024 rates) Hours of Work:The City of North Vancouver works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week period.
