The additional 6.25% can be taken as compensation or time off. As a certified arborist, you will be responsible for tree management practices on over 14,000 hectares of regional park land, with a focus on hazard tree management. This role: (The duties described are intended to be representative of the position and are not to be considered as all inclusive) Acts as the lead Designated Tree Management Contact for Regional Parks and is responsible for activities such as: assist with the coordination and the implementation of the Metro Vancouver Hazard Tree Management System, maintains the associated Tree Risk Assessment Database for Regional Parks, utilizes Property Interest Information & Management System to determine if trees are on Regional Park lands. Conducts and/or coordinates scheduled or on-demand hazard tree risk assessments across the regional parks system and recommends mitigation measures as required, in compliance with MVRD approved tree management policies and procedures and arboriculture industry standards. Writes and/or reviews certified arborist reports as required. Responsible for coordinating operational activities related to tree management and may supervise staff and contractors regarding: hazard tree risk assessment, project site preparation, mitigation and remediation, and wildfire hazard planning/mapping and danger tree abatement. Collaborates, and in consultation with natural resource management staff and contractors, responsible for tree replacement, site restoration, forest health monitoring, and the implementation of climate change adaptation strategies. Consults with field staff and contractors to ensure all necessary approvals and permits are in place before any tree management projects are carried out. Maintains an inventory of culturally modified trees, modified by aboriginal people for traditional tree utilization in regional parks. Assist with the evaluation of risk posed by potentially hazard trees on adjacent properties to Regional Park lands, assessing their potential impact on public safety, environmental protection, property and critical infrastructure within regional parks, as required or upon request. Communicates with adjacent property owners regarding tree related concerns. Assists in preparation of tree management program budgets, requests for proposals, and contracts. Produces work schedules, safety plans, cost estimates and project summaries. Reviews municipal planning and development plans related to tree management. May assist to represent MVRD where tree protection, tree replacement and / or tree compensation is required from adjacent land owners. Assist in training Regional Parks staff and contractors in knowledge of the Metro Vancouver Hazard Tree Management System and the application of the Tree Risk Assessment Database. Coordinates with Designated Tree Management Contacts from other Metro Vancouver departments with hazard tree management programs (Water Services, Liquid Waste Services, Solid Waste Services, Metro Vancouver Housing). Coordinates with outside agencies related to hazard tree risk within regional parks, such as BC Hydro, Telus, Fortis BC, etc. Participates in emergency responses such as forest fire mop up and wind storm cleanups with focus on emergency remedial tree work.
