The Youth Worker is responsible for empowering and supporting young individuals by addressing their mental health needs, fostering their social and emotional development, and guiding them toward achieving personal and academic goals. This position is dedicated to creating safe spaces, engaging in meaningful outreach, and connecting youth with valuable programs and resources to help them thrive.
*Duties and Responsibilities:*
_1. Counseling & Mental Health Support_
* Provide one-on-one and group counseling sessions for youth to address mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, and stress.
* Foster a safe and non-judgmental environment where young people feel heard and supported.
* Collaborate with mental health professionals and refer youth to appropriate services when necessary.
_2. Youth Recreation Programs_
* Develop and implement structured recreational activities that promote physical health, teamwork, and relationship-building.
* Organize events and workshops aimed at enhancing social skills and fostering community connections.
* Monitor participation and assess the impact of programs to ensure they meet youth development goals.
_3. Outreach & Community Engagement_
* Identify and engage with at-risk or disconnected youth within the community.
* Build trust and establish relationships to connect youth with appropriate services and opportunities.
* Collaborate with local organizations, schools, and community leaders to strengthen the support network for youth.
_4. Comprehensive Youth Support_
* Provide mentorship and guidance on academic pathways, career exploration, and personal development.
* Assist youth in setting realistic goals and accessing resources to achieve them.
* Act as an advocate for young people, ensuring their voices are represented in program development and decision-making processes.
* Other duties and projects as needed.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
*Education:*
* A diploma or degree in Social Work, Youth Studies, Psychology, or a related field.
* Minimum 3 years of experience working with youth in a counseling, mentorship, or recreational programming capacity.
* Experience or knowledge of First Nations communities, including cultural practices, traditions, and challenges faced by Indigenous youth.
*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Specialized Knowledge:*
* Strong understanding of youth development principles, mental health issues, and community resources.
* Familiarity with First Nations culture, history, and values, and a willingness to integrate this knowledge into program delivery.
* Ability to design and facilitate engaging recreational programs and workshops.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with youth from diverse backgrounds.
* Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills to address challenges effectively.
* Sensitivity to cultural differences and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
*Conditions of Employment:*
· Ability to obtain and maintain a clear Vulnerable Criminal Records check
· Ability to obtain positive evaluations and assessments and to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of their position as set out in their job description and employment agreement
· Must adhere the conditions set out in the Yekooche Employment Agreement
· Ability to maintain positive working relationships with the Yekooche Staff Team
· Must have a valid bank account and Social Insurance Number
· Must posses a valid BC driver?s license
· Must live in the Yekooche Community

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 ? 40 per week
