People like you!This is transportation planning work at the professional level in the areas of sustainable transportation, share micro-mobility, policy development, bylaw review and update, feasibility studies and regional network reviews, and community and stakeholder engagement. An employee of this class applies specialized knowledge and social, economic and physical data to major planning projects involving complex problems and often politically sensitive issues. These projects may involve the development, coordination and implementation of an overall transportation initiative for a designated area of the city or citywide, and may involve a number of integrated projects requiring in-depth research and involving recommendations on major policy changes. The work of this class is distinguished from that of Planner 1, in that more complex tasks of considerable scope and magnitude are performed. Responsibilities include: supervising and participating in the collection and analysis of a wide variety of data required for the completion of major transportation planning projects; providing inputs and supports City initiatives on urban village street standards and streetscaping; reviewing City bylaws and transportation planning best practices to develop policies for urban mobility and plans for pilot and long-term programs for sustainable transportation modes; reviewing City bylaws and amendments, and preparing updates to address City?s current needs, particularly the Street and Traffic Bylaw; preparing and reviewing complex Terms of Reference and consultants? work for feasibility studies and network reviews; developing and leading community and stakeholder engagement for transportation projects; supervising the work of professional and/or technical staff engaged in transportation planning work. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include a Master's Degree in Planning or related discipline with considerable professional experience in urban or regional transportation planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The incumbent should have: thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of urban and regional transportation planning; considerable knowledge of economics, municipal finances and sociology as applied to urban transportation planning; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to express ideas effectively orally and in a written or graphic manner; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, professionals and the public, and to transmit clearly the principles and requirements of sound planning and development. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the Canadian Institute of Planners is required.The closing date for this competition has been extended until it is filled.
