Zone: Eastern Zone Location: Janeway Children's Hospital Social Worker III Children's and Women's Health - Lifestyle Program Temporary Full-time (Until December 28, 2025 with possibility of extension) 01140RP1 Hours 75 bi-weekly(8 hours; Days) Salary CG-43 ($45.48 - $56.13 per hour which includes any negotiated wage adjustment and/or supplement as applicable) Competition Number VAC0003509 Posted Date 2024-11-19 Closing Date 2024-11-26 Demands, duties, qualifications Job Summary The Janeway Lifestyle Program is comprised of an interdisciplinary team that provides service to families whose children (aged 4-14) have been identified as having a risk factor for the development of chronic disease. Risk factors include high cholesterol ratio, hypertension, obesity, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, fatty liver disease or impaired glucose tolerance. Assessment and treatment is provided through interdisciplinary clinic and psycho educational groups, with some individual brief therapy as needed. In addition to this, the program focuses on health promotion/prevention, research, and provincial policy development/consultation. The assessment and treatment portion of the Lifestyle Program will be expanding throughout Newfoundland and Labrador within the next three years through resource development and training of other healthcare professionals. All team members are expected to be actively involved in research within the program. This is a highly specialized social work position within the Janeway Lifestyle Team of the Child Health Program. The social worker is an integral member of the team who acts as a co-therapist with the Clinical Co-coordinator in the continued development and delivery of the group treatment component of the program. The social worker is also involved in the assessment of children for participation in the Lifestyle Program and long term follow up of children and their families through interdisciplinary clinics. Further clinical responsibilities include evaluation of group programming, provincial resource/consultant to a variety of professionals and agencies, policy development, advocacy and public education. Brief individual therapy to be provided, as appropriate. The social worker will be expected to be involved in research activities to enhance clinical practice and service delivery in this area. S/He will also be required to attend travelling clinics up to twice per year. Some flexibility in work hours is required as team programming occasionally takes place during the evening. This position will report to the Division Manager and maintains accountability for professional integrity issues to the Professional Practice Consultant for Social Work. Job Demands By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to): Occasionally there is lifting or physical strength required to carry boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment up to 15 lbs. Occasionally work demands result in considerable fatigue requiring periods of rest. Constantly sits to work on the computer or to drive to meetings. Regularly uses fine finger/precision work to enter information into computer systems. Visual and auditory concentration is required when reviewing client files/notes and for documenting work into computerized systems. A higher than normal level of attentiveness and carefulness is required when assessing clients, especially those who may be at a high risk, in order to ensure their health and safety, staff's safety, and to prevent any possible dangers or hazards from happening. Lack of control over the work pace and time pressures can occur when completing assessments, case documentation and workload reports, managing emergency and routine appointments within the allocated timeframe.
