wastewater treatment operator

Job details
Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work site environment: Odours. Tasks: Operate disinfection systems. Operate filtration and clarification systems. Operate oxidation systems. Operate pumping systems. Read blueprints to determine work requirements . Take physico-chemical measurements on water and sludge. Perform security checks within plant and on grounds. Wear and use Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment. Analyze test results and instrument readings. Collect and test water samples for chemical and bacterial content. Collect waste and sewage samples. Complete and maintain plant logs and reports. Help with the installation, the assembly, and repairs to equipment. Maintain chemical feed stocks. Make adjustments to plant equipment and systems. Monitor and inspect plant equipment and systems to detect equipment malfunctioning and to ensure plant systems are operating normally. Monitor and read recording instruments to detect equipment malfunctions and ensure plant systems and equipment are operating within prescribed limits. Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment to regulate the treatment and distribution of water. Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment to regulate the flow of sewage and to treat and dispose of sewage and wastes. Patrol plant to check pumps, motors, filters, chlorinators and other plant equipment. Read recording instruments to measure output and consumption levels, bacterial content, chlorine and fluoride levels. Transport and mix chemicals, and operate equipment used to unload chemicals. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Water wastewater operator Certification. CPR Certificate. Water Treatment Certificate (Levels I, II, III or IV). Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Hand-eye co-ordination. Handling heavy loads. Manual dexterity. Overtime required. Physically demanding. Repetitive tasks. Standing for extended periods.
