We are an inclusive employer. <p>Please note: the work schedule is 10 months<p>Hours of work: seven (7) hours per day<p>This position offers a competitive benefit package and immediate enrolment in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement Pension Plan (OMERS)<p>Criteria For Interview <p><p> 3-year College Diploma in American Sign Language English Interpreter Program or equivalent<p> Minimum one (1) year of related experience<p> Fluent in ASL, English and manually-coded English<p> General knowledge of Secondary School curricula<p> Must be a practicing Roman Catholic verified through a Pastoral reference<p><p>Major Duties and Responsibilities <p>The primary function of this job is to act as the interpreter of communication between the deaf and hard of hearing students and the mainstream teachers and students; to provide direct and full access to the regular classroom (especially subject specialization) areas and to have access to all school services and to participate in extra-curricular activities.<p><p> Acts as interpreter for deaf and hard of hearing students, regular student(s)/teacher(s) in a normal classroom setting<p> Carries the cultural interpretation of ideas and messages across the boundaries of the deaf and hard of hearing community and that of the spoken language community<p> Provides interpreting services for hearing impaired student(s)/regular student(s)/teacher(s) at various school events, assemblies, school masses, school plays, sports teams, student council, retreats, meetings, appointments, interviews, etc.<p> Carries out preparation for participation in classroom, special meetings, events, etc. such as meeting with teacher(s) to know what the goal is/discuss lesson plans, reading/reviewing course materials, attending planning/rehearsal sessions<p> Carries out cross-cultural mediation and bimodal communication<p> Instructs the school staff and students about the role of the interpreter by giving workshops, handouts and conducting role plays<p> Perform other duties as assigned<p><p>This is a CUPE Local 1328 union position with a bi-weekly pay of $2,566.30 to $3,092.44 ($55,175.45 - $66,487.46), effective September 1, 2024. <p>Who We Are <p>Our mission at TCDSB is to inspire learning in every way and support our students and employees. <p>Employees are passionate and have a strong belief in our mission and making TCDSB a leader in public education.<p>We know and believe that diverse and inclusive teams empower us to make better decisions and inspire continuous improvement so that we can better serve our students, communities, and employees.<p>As an equal opportunity employer, we welcome applications from individuals who would co- LocationToronto, ON
