People like you!This is recreation leadership work in the organization and implementation of a variety of social, cultural or recreational activities within Bonsor Recreation Complex including services for senior citizens and in supervising part-time staff, contractual instructors and volunteers engaged in related tasks. An incumbent prepares and leads individual program plans for and assists a supervisor to schedule indoor and outdoor supervised activities; assesses program results in defined areas and recommends changes as necessary in programs. Assists a supervisor in liaising with community groups, associations, entertainers and volunteers that have participated in past or directly related events or festivals and coordinates arrangements for their participating in established events. A Recreation Leader 1 promotes interest and participation in program activities, events or festivals; prepares promotional material and addresses various groups relative to program offerings; reviews the same and makes recommendations as to new programs. Prepares and maintains records, activity reports and requisitions; maintains equipment and supply inventories; enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behaviour and safety are maintained. Other responsibilities include participating in recruitment of and gives guidance and instruction to one or more part-time recreation program staff and contractual instructors engaged in instructional or leadership tasks; evaluates the same and makes recommendations for hiring, rehiring or dismissal of the same. Recruits, trains, directs and evaluates volunteers; assumes responsibility for the operation and security of a Recreation Centre on assigned shifts and/or in absence of a supervisor. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of a two year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and preferably some related experience, or completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in recreation and sound related community recreation experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the recreational, social, and cultural interests and requirements and resources of the Centre, or the event. Working knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices and that of sports, crafts, arts and other pursuits related to various recreational, social and cultural programs and/or the events or festivals. An incumbent will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractual instructors, volunteers, groups, associations and the general public. Ability to participate in the recruitment of and give guidance and instruction to part-time staff and contractual instructors and to recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers. Ability to prepare and maintain records, reports and promotional material related to the work. A Driver?s Licence for the Province of British Columbia, First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate - Level C are required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.Schedule: 44 hours bi-weekly (0.63 FTE); Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 PM - 9:15 PM, Sunday from 9:15 AM - 5:15 PMThe closing date for this competition has been extended until it is filled.
