Working within financial constraints, this position is responsible for projects and programs, including preparation of plans, schedules, reports, and inspectionsStatusRegular Full-Time (CUPE 402)RESPONSIBILITIESThe Park Technician will perform hands on field work in all weather conditions including:Completing field work in accordance with accepted standards, techniques, and best practices; manage programs and projects within approved budgets. Prepare project work plans for assigned functional area, based on sectional goals and objectives. Administer contracts in conjunction with established work plans. Experience in construction carpentry techniques is required, along with a high level of proficiency in the use of related hand and power tools and equipment. Typical tasks would include, but not limited to, restoration of parkland structures such as retaining walls, plazas, concrete works, running tracks, sport courts, youth parks, protective fencing, and park signage in addition to other related trade duties.QualificationsThe successful candidate will possess one of the following: Completion of grade 12 supplemented by a relevant Trades Qualification supplemented by 3 years of related progressive experience or Completion of a Diploma program (in Building Technology, Construction, Engineering, Relevant Trades, or related discipline would be an asset) from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum of 3 years related experience or Completion of grade 12 and a related Technical Certificate Program (one year full time) from a recognized post-secondary institution with additional related academic courses and training including at least one credit course in each of supervision and technical writing, supplemented by 4 years of related progressive experience. Pesticide Applicator?s License - to be obtained before the completion of probation period. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. You must have a valid BC Driver?s License with a safe driving history and be able to successfully pass a Police Information Check. Candidates must possess superior public relation and interpersonal skills including dealing with others in stressful situations, strong organizational skills and be physically able to carry out the duties as required. You will use your advanced problem-solving skills to effect on-site resolution of project related issues and problems. Your thorough knowledge of applicable statutes and regulations will ensure your success in this role. Other responsibilities include the creation and storage of work-related records and plans pertaining to the status of projects.
