Our team delivers transformers of the highest quality through superior design, quality workmanship and attention to our clients' individual needs. </p><p>Due to the growth of our business, we have an opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in the design of liquid filled power transformers from 5 to 200MVA, up to 230 kV. </p><p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities of the "Mechanical Design Engineer" </strong></p><ul><li><p>Responsible for mechanical design of power transformers from 1 to 200MVA and up to 230kV </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Review and analysis of client specifications </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Detailed understanding of power transformer mechanical design (external and internal including electrical clearances), features, shipping and field considerations </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Understanding of CSA, IEEE and ANSI standards with respect to power transformers </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Creation of drawings, bills of material, work instructions and uploading ERP </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Perform engineering analysis of forces, stress and strain, electrical clearances, centre of gravity, seismic, vacuum </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Anticipate and assist with production processes and procedures to ensure high quality and smooth production </p></li><li><p>Technical leadership for the business </p></li><li><p>Coach, train, motivate and provide leadership to junior mechanical designers, production staff and other company team members </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Engage directly with suppliers to understand capabilities, resolve quality issues and identify new technologies </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Assist with the generation of new design rules, practices and procedures </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Increase use of software tools to improve productivity and reduce errors (design calculations, sharing of technical information, ERP uploading, preparation of requisitions, etc) </p></li><li><p>Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the company's values of Quality, Safety and Service and company Environment, Health & Safety procedures and ISO9001 management system </p></li><li><p>Be flexible and take initiative on engineering and management tasks as required by a fast growing, mid-sized company </p></li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications: </strong></p><ul><li><p>Engineering degree, professional licensure in Canada, US or Mexico </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>5+ years of engineering design work experience in a power transformer design & manufacturing environment </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Trained in welding process and quality assessment </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Excellent computer skills: specifically, 3D CAD, numerical analysis, related workflow programming </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Excellent organization, high degree of accuracy and attention to detail </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Strong people skills - mentoring, team building, motivating, change agent </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Strong client skills - empathy, trust building, fact based </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Language: willing to continuously improve English skills </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Willing to relocate to Toronto area, Ontario </p></li></ul><p><strong>Benefits </strong></p><ul><li><p>Competitive salary and benefits package </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Clean, modern and friendly working environment </p></li></ul></div>Company Description<div>Northern Transformer <span class="long-word">www.northerntransformer.com</span><br><br>Northern Transformer Corporation is a North American manufacturer of liquid filled transformers of the highest quality and reliability serving the North American market since 1981.
