Park Attendant- Lighthouse Park(Permanent Part-Time)Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. Our dedicated staff deliver services, operate facilities and run the programs that enhance the well-being of our community.The West Vancouver Parks Department is accepting applications for a permanent part-time Park Attendant, responsible for a variety of park maintenance and public relations tasks in Lighthouse Park. The work for this position is considered manual work, requiring effort and stamina in all weather conditions. The successful candidate will be working mainly on their own in Lighthouse Park and will be required to perform various maintenance activities that include: garbage collection; vegetation management; trail maintenance; and other related duties as operationally required. They will also act as a source of information for the many Park visitors by answering a variety of questions regarding way-finding, park rules/guidelines and general park information.Other duties include:Providing public safety through interacting with park users, park patrolling and maintaining trails. Communicating and educating park users on parks regulations, bylaws, and wildlife interactions. Working with various groups (such as volunteers, stewardships, schools, etc.). Reporting any issues in the Parks through the appropriate channels (eg. Bylaw, Police, Fire and other departments). Knowledge of landscape maintenance and how to safely operate the equipment. Performing manual tasks involved in invasive plant remediation. Maintaining trails by removing vegetation using line trimmer, blowers, and hedge trimmers. Ability to work independently in difficult terrain and weather. General Park maintenance, graffiti removal, litter collection and beach cleanups. Sufficient physical strength and stamina to walk long distances and to perform manual outdoor work in all types of weather.The preferred candidate will possess:Exceptional communication skills and the ability to deal with the public in a courteous and effective manner. Demonstrated judgement skills in interpreting regulations, bylaws, and other related information. Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions. Previous Park Ranger experience is an asset. An ability to work with minimum supervision. A valid First Aid Certificate or CPR Certification will be an asset. Ability to safely operate handheld equipment. Chainsaw certification considered an asset. Bylaw 1 certification considered an asset.The successful candidate must have:completed Grade 12 or equivalent a valid unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver?s Licence an acceptable original Police Information Check and Driver?s AbstractDuring the assessment process, successful candidates will be asked to submit a Driver?s Abstract from ICBC. The length of these assignments will be dependent upon operational requirements.
