*Job Title: * Engineering Technician (Water)
*Reports to: * Water Utility Engineer
*POSITION OVERVIEW:*
As a member of the Engineering Department, you will utilize your skills to support the water operations group?s construction activities, customer-driven projects and developments and coordinate utilities with municipal improvements. You will manage a number of projects, and provide support to other Engineering staff in the performance of their duties. You will also prepare engineering design packages and construction contracts, review and comment on various engineering submissions, and provide day to day construction monitoring of subdivision development. As such, you will be required to interact in a professional and effective manner with internal and external customers in person, by telephone and in writing.
*MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:* ?
* Design, inspection and coordination for various water utility projects including new water mains, water main replacement and water main rehabilitation.
* Prepare and administer construction contracts, including completing tender specifications, preparing pay certificates, maintaining financial control contract interpretation, enforcement, and ensuring due diligence requirements are met.
* Construction inspection, compliance with specifications including verification of grades/elevations and quality assurance of materials and workmanship through testing, survey, and inspection.
* Administer subdivision development agreements and ensure compliance.
* Related municipal water works construction inspection experience.
* Coordination and understanding of material testing methods and verification as related to civil construction (granular material, asphalt, concrete, compaction etc).
* Assist in the establishment of long-range plans, annual reports and the development of the annual capital budget.
* Coordinate outside inspection services upon construction sites under the Technician?s control in cooperation with outside inspection demands from other PUC construction sites.
* Liaison and coordination with consulting firms, contractors, other Peterborough Utilities personnel, outside agencies and other third parties.
* Responsible for personal safety, and the safety of others within their control. Report hazards and unsafe acts or conditions encountered on the job to fellow workers and supervisors. Responsible for having a working knowledge of all applicable safety legislation pertaining to the job.
* Investigate and resolve customer complaints, contract and technical issues in a professional, economical and timely manner.
* Represent Peterborough Utilities at meetings with the City of Peterborough, other utilities, developers, etc;
* Provide technical support, guidance and support to other departmental staff in the Peterborough Utilities Group.
* Keep the Sr. Engineering Technician and Water Utility Engineer informed of work status as well as bringing to their attention any issues that arise, with due consideration to any advice/suggestions/direction given.
* If available and called, must be able to perform emergency Engineering functions after hours.
* Other duties as required or assigned.
*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:*
Post Secondary School Diploma as an Engineering Technician or equivalent work related experience;
A minimum of five (5) years related water utility design experience coupled with O.A.C.E.T.T. " Certified Engineering Technician" certification preferably with a Civil designation. (Eligibility for certification may be considered) or equivalent work related experience.
*TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:*
* Knowledge on specification preparation and contract administration experience.
* Experience in the preparation of drawings neatly, accurately and timely using recognized computer-aided drafting software (such as Microstation or AutoCAD/Civil 3D) when required.
