*Job Summary*
The Dangerous Goods/Occupational Health and Safety Assistant supports the DG/OHS Coordinator in ensuring compliance with Transport Canada?s Transport of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR) and applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations. This role involves administrative support and hands-on tasks related to dangerous goods and OHS, as well as assisting with various responsibilities under the direction of the Director, Training, Safety, and Compliance.
*Duties and Responsibilities*
*Dangerous Goods*
* Organize and ?le Dangerous Goods (DG) paperwork, collaborating with departments/bases and Northern Agents to ensure completeness.
* Support the DG/OHS Coordinator in keeping the DG program and training materials up to date with current regulations.
* Monitor DG training schedules and ensure all relevant staff are compliant.
* Conduct base visits, including Northern community stops, to ensure adherence to DG rules and processes.
* Act as a liaison with Transport Canada and other regulatory bodies as needed.
* Provide training to enhance understanding of DG regulations and compliance requirements.
* Assist in maintaining the DG program, including Transport Canada DG inspections, dangerous goods policies and procedures, training course development, and internal station audits.
* As experience grows and with DG/OHS Coordinator approval, deliver in-class DG training to staff, and act as a resource for dangerous goods related issues.
* Perform other duties as required.
*Occupational Health and Safety*
* Participate in and provide administrative support for Company OHS committee meetings, including base committees.
* Ensure base OHS meeting minutes and related information are uploaded to SharePoint.
* Follow up on tasks assigned to bases on OHS committee meetings.
* Complete corrective actions for defects identi?ed during workplace inspections using the ?Unsatisfactory Items for Review? Form.
* Verify that all base workplace inspections are completed and ?led.
* Assist bases in maintaining OHS safety boards.
* Conduct monthly inspections of ?re extinguishers, emergency lighting, ?rst aid kits, etc., and ensure bases complete these tasks. Order supplies as needed.
* Maintain a list of safety equipment at all bases and oversee mandated inspection requirements, liaising with third parties for inspections as needed.
* Visit bases and northern stops to ensure compliance with OHS processes.
* Collaborate with the DG/OHS Coordinator to keep the DG and OHS programs and training up to date with regulations.
* Liaise with regulatory authorities as required.
* Provide training to support understanding of OHS regulations and compliance.
* Work with departments and staff to identify hazards and assist in implementing and operating the Government-mandated risk reduction program (Hazard Prevention Program, HPP).
* Perform other daily duties as required.
*As Required by the Training, Safety, and Compliance Department*
* Assist in maintaining and updating training records in the company training program.
* Help develop and amend company training programs.
* Support investigations and document organization in the company Safety Management System (SMS) program.
* Assist in audits, audit sampling, and document organization within the Quality Assurance Program.
*Minimum Skills and Qualifications*
* High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferred.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Pro?cient in MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
* Strong ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
* High attention to detail and ability to maintain con?dentiality.
* Professional and tactful interpersonal skills.
*Additional Skills and Quali?cations Considered an Asset*
* Experience with adult education and instructional techniques
* Experience in aviation or cargo
* Certi?cate, diploma, or degree in Dangerous Goods or a related ?eld is an asset.
