*Please note: This position will require you to work both day and afternoon shifts during the academic term. Events and activities are delivered up to three evenings a week*.
*About the Role:*
Reporting to the Manager, Co-Curricular Experiential Learning & Programs, the Med Plus Consultant coordinates and facilitates delivery of the Med Plus Program, a four-year co-curricular program for students interested in health care careers. Program components include speaker series / observational visits, job shadowing, skills development workshops, mentoring and program advising.
The Med Plus Consultant further supports students with full-time, summer, and part-time employment by providing career/job search advice, guidance to support further education pursuits and advance employment preparation skills and techniques, increasing the probability of employability within the job market.
*The* *Med Plus Consultant will:*
* Coordinate the Med Plus application process, including evaluating Med Plus applications and determining the Med Plus intake;
* Liaise with prospective students and parents, answering questions about the program;
* Collaborate with the Med Plus Advisor to develop and maintain strong working relationships with health care professionals;
* Develop and implement the annual Med Plus curriculum, including liaising with community health care professionals and coordinating speaker engagements, observational visits, job shadows and skill development workshops;
* Plan, organize, coordinate, and promote Med Plus events; booking speakers/facilitators/employers, overseeing logistics, and managing registration;
* Facilitate career workshops to small and large groups of students, including but not limited to career planning, resume/cover letter writing interview techniques, job search, networking strategies, skills translation, etc.;
* Provide guidance/advice on the career planning and job search process; networking, professional etiquette, wage negotiation, and decision-making;
* Critique, edit and review resumes, applications and cover letters for students and recent graduates; applying knowledge of industry language/terminology, interpreting content and offering creative alternatives for style and effect, correcting spelling, grammar and formatting;
* Conduct individual, face-to-face mock interviews;
* Design and develop content for departmental resources including career resource handouts, job search guides, student and employer handbooks/forms;
* and brand consistency;
* Attend student recruitment events such as Open Houses and the Ontario Universities? Fair to promote the Co-op, Career, & Experiential Education to prospective students;
* Attend professional development events/conferences to continually keep abreast of current trends in career advising and the employment market.
*Key Skills and Experience:*
* A bachelor's degree in a related field;
* Experience in a career advising role;
* Knowledge of career development methods and practices;
* Experience with resume and cover letter screening/development;
* Current knowledge of admissions processes and techniques at professional schools;
* Experience conducting interviews and providing feedback;
* Understanding of relevant labour market trends and information;
* Experience with event planning;
* Advanced communications skills (verbal, written and interpersonal) and professional public speaking ability;
* Ability to coach, mentor and motivate individuals;
* Conflict resolution skills;
* Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks/requests.
*Preferred or Asset Skills: *
* Career Development Practitioner?s certification;
* Human Resources certification;
* Professional resume writing certification.
*Salary and Total Rewards: *
* Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($57,400-$98,400);
* Target Hiring Range: $57,400-$65,000
* This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
