January 27, 2025 to December 19, 2025) to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Roads Operations Department. Reporting to the Roads Operations Manager, in this unionized position you will perform a variety of manual work requiring physical effort and agility in the operations of semi-skilled and unskilled construction/maintenance tasks.Responsibilities:Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in roads operations, maintenance and construction Act as a pad-person for backhoes and a grade-person in construction of sidewalks, trenches, and roads operations Break blacktop and concrete surfaces using pneumatic hammer and compressor accessories Operate motorized compacting machines for backfilling and grading work and perform more complex work as required Perform landscaping, planting and vegetation duties and install traffic signs/road markings on municipal streets Drive a vehicle to transport materials and tools to job sites Perform related work as requiredQualifications:Completion of Grade 12 with some experience in construction and maintenance or an equivalent combination of training and experience Sound knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in general construction and maintenance work Skill in the use of a variety of tools used in general maintenance and construction work Sound knowledge of the functions of roads operations and of the established procedures governing the work Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and simple written instructions Sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual work outdoors in all weather Valid BC Class 3 Driver?s License (full-privilege) with Air brake Endorsement is considered an assetCandidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application. Valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) Driver?s License or equivalent driver?s license for where you reside.
