Kinghaven Treatment Centre was established in 1971 as MSA Halfway House. Over the past 45 years it has evolved into one of the country?s premier intensive residential treatment centres having served in excess of 28,000 adult men who present with problematic use of mood-altering substances. Located in the tranquil Fraser Valley of British Columbia, our campus also includes the new George Schmidt Centre, a 31 unit second-stage housing facility.
Peardonville House Treatment Centre was founded in 1987 as an adult women?s treatment facility to serve the ever increasing demand of services for women in addiction. In 1990, at the request of the provincial government, the ?Moms and Kids? program was launched to allow women struggling with addiction to bring their under-school-age children to treatment with them and have them share in the residential recovery experience.

*JOB SUMMARY:*
*Job Summary:*
Our team of counsellors provides clinical services such as assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic counselling for adult men and women with substance misuse problems and their family members. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Addiction Counsellor provides assessment, intervention and counselling of clients through various stages of recovery using appropriate intervention strategies and treatment. The Addictions Counsellor will have a strong focus on client needs and be able to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
This position also liaises with other professionals in the community. Leadership skills, the ability to make decisions and problem solve are essential to this role.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
· Conducts group and one-to-one counselling sessions using trauma informed practices
· Responsible for case management of assigned caseload
· Orients new clients as scheduled
· Meets with assigned clients on a regular and individual basis
· Assists in the development and implementation of outcome oriented individual treatment and aftercare plans
· Maintains accurate, confidential and up-to-date documentation
· Conducts assessment interviews with clients as per schedule
· Maintains an accurate and up-to-date knowledge of resources available to clients and refer when appropriate
· Participates in developing client concurrent disorder education services and contributes to program development in order to meet the needs of the population
· Participates in case conferences and attends staff and clinical meetings
· Assists with practicum student training
· Continues to upgrade credentials as required
· Other related duties as required
Skills and Abilities:
· Awareness of personal attitudes towards substance misuse
· Ability to identify own experiences and values in relation to the therapeutic environment.
· Ability to conduct self professionally while respect the client?s right to self determination
· Ability to establish rapport with clients and carry out the required clinical functions relating to assessment, treatment plan development and implementation
· Ability to problem solve demonstrating flexibility in dealing with complex situations and to utilize appropriate assertiveness as necessary
· Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
· Ability to work effectively with others
· Ability to organize and prioritize work
· Ability to safely and responsibly operate related equipment
· Ability to learn new methodologies, ideas and concepts
· Working familiarity of group process facilitation techniques and ability to facilitate group sessions
