The City of Delta is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team and share in our commitment to lead the way in public service excellence.City of DeltaParks SuperintendentReporting to the Assistant Manager of Engineering Operations, the Parks Superintendent is accountable for the supervisory, technical and administrative work involved in the effective operation of the Parks Operations Department within the Engineering Operations Division at the City of Delta. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, assigning, inspecting and supervising, directly and through staff, the work of crews engaged in maintenance, installation, and repair tasks. Building strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external is vital to the role.Skills and KnowledgeIn addition to demonstrating effective leadership skills in a team environment and a commitment to excellence in their day-to-day work, candidates must also demonstrate job knowledge through familiarity and understanding of job requirements, received through education and training, as well as practical hands-on experience.Strong communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to function well under pressure are key attributes that successful candidates will already possess.You have the ability to plan ahead in order to anticipate problems and meet changing needs, generate new ideas and develop alternate solutions to problems, and the ability to meet agreed-upon timelines. Promoting and monitoring workplace safety compliance is a must in this position, along with a demonstrated ability to provide advice and support to managers, supervisors, and employees.Departmental responsibilities include but are not limited to:Sports fields (artificial, sand, and soil-based fields) Turf Management and Irrigation Trail maintenance and vegetation control Playgrounds, washrooms, garbage collection, signage, lighting Special Events (coordinating staff and equipment for City supported events) Emergency response such as snow, wind, or otherEducation and ExperiencePreference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in a Parks related discipline (Turfgrass Management) or an equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.A minimum of 10 years of parks related experience, preferably in a unionized municipal environment. This position requires a valid BC class 5 driver?s licence. The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $113,720 - $135,614 (commensurate with experience) and an excellent benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan as well as an earned-days-off system.
