Responsibilities

Tasks

  • May work in a team with shared supervisory responsibilities
  • Wear and use Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment
  • Review work order to determine job specifications
  • Provide emergency response when required
  • Perform general labouring duties
  • Participate in emergency response planning
  • Operate, maintain and repair deck equipment
  • Evaluate work environments, programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury
  • Move, sort and pile materials and products
  • Monitor safety area
  • Load and unload vessels
  • Inspect workplaces for safety or health hazards
  • Hazardous products handling and storage
  • Ensure safety of rescuers and victims at accident scenes
  • Determine appropriate selection of materials and methods for hazardous locations
  • Assist in operation, repair and maintenance
  • Provide advice and training to users in response to identified difficulties
  • Clean and maintain work space
  • Assemble, erect and install hoisting and rigging equipment
  • Train staff/workers in job duties, safety procedures and company policies
  • Supervise and co-ordinate activities of deck crews
  • Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders or other support structures
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations
  • Collaborate with specialists to develop programs for clients' special needs
  • Advise supervisor or central control operator and process and machine operators of problems and product deficiencies
  • Report accidents, distress signals, navigational hazards and other emergencies
  • Manage incidents
