Indigenous Support Worker <p>Permanent positions, 35 hours per week <p> Join our dynamic, innovative team and embrace our longstanding tradition of quality, faith-based education. We are dedicated to nurturing and developing the mind, body and spirit of every student within our inclusive Catholic learning community.<p>Under the direction of the Superintendent of Education and the Principal, the Indigenous Support Worker will assist in planning, preparing, and facilitating Indigenous youth programming that will increase Indigenous students sense of cultural pride, self-esteem, and sense of belonging. The Indigenous Support Worker will also contribute to developing an awareness and appreciation of contemporary and traditional First Nation, Mtis, and Inuit (FNMI) traditions, cultures and perspectives for all learners and staff.<p>As a member of the school team, the Indigenous Support Worker will play a crucial role in supporting Indigenous youths mental, physical, spiritual and emotion health and support graduation success.<p> Required Education/Certification: Community College Diploma or University Degree in a relevant field e.g. Native Youth Worker (NYW), Child and Youth Care Worker (CYW), Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Indigenous Studies. Lived experience will also be taken into consideration. <p> Required Experience: Experience working with youth in the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Community <p> Demonstrated experience working in a team environment <p> An understanding and experience working with youth<p> Required Knowledge: Knowledge of how to effectively build relationships with Indigenous youth and Indigenous families <p> Knowledge of provincial and local Indigenous Education initiatives<p> Knowledge of community services and supports available for Indigenous youth Skills/Abilities: Ability to connect Indigenous youth and their families with community services<p> Demonstrated ability in assisting youth in reaching their full potential <p> Ability to develop leadership opportunities for Indigenous youth<p> Ability to support youth with transitions to post-secondary or the workforce<p> Ability to develop and facilitate appropriate cultural learning opportunities to enhance the understanding of Indigenous culture, history, and ways of knowing among students and staff<p> Ability to effectively support Indigenous student success through mentorship and planning<p> Self-starter and ability to work under minimal supervision <p> Ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous Community Partners, families, students, and Elders<p> Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both verbal/written <p> Excellent problem-solving skills<p> Ability to facilitate small group discussions and to engage learners in a classroom setting<p> Ability to be sensitive to the needs of all students<p> High level of attention to confidentiality<p> Proficient in the use of word processing software, Internet, and email<p> Ability to provide regular attendance Preferred Qualifications Current First Aid Certification & CPR Certification<p> Experience in a classroom setting<p> Knowledge of Ojibwe language would be considered an asset. The ideal candidate will be a person of Indigenous descent.<p> Hours of work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The annual work schedule typically follows the school year calendar and may include additional days if required.
