*About the Role:*
Reporting to the Director, Campus Safety Services, the Special Constable contributes to a safe, secure and welcoming environment for the Brock community through crime prevention, education, and enforcement working within a community-based Safety/Security model. In exercising their duties, Special Constables uphold the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
*The Special Constable will: *
* Promote goodwill and cooperation by maintaining a positive working relationship with University departments and community groups along with local law enforcement agencies;
* Liaise with Brock staff, provide support to patrol section, prepare reports, and provide guidance to the platoon;
* Follow-up on assignments, interview suspects and witnesses and obtain statements from parties involved;
* Secure investigation scenes, search, and/or secure evidence where appropriate;
* Review Incident Reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conduct any follow-ups as required;
* Conduct patrols of the University, enforce the laws of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC), provincial statutes, by-laws, and University policy and procedures;
* Act as first responder to all calls for service and conduct arrests where appropriate;
* Promote and deliver educational programs on personal safety, crime prevention and property protection;
* Advise and support members of the campus community and visitors to Campus;
* Provide assistance in Safety and Security of all special events and participate in all University Fairs representing Campus Safety Services;
* Provide supervision/guidance to contract Security Guards that are assigned to the platoon.
*Qualifications for the Appointment:*
The selection of University Special Constables will be consistent with the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA), O. Reg.396/23 and University policies.
Each candidate recommended by Brock for appointment as a Special Constable must:
* Be a permanent employee of the University, or have a binding offer of employment as a Special Constable with Brock;
* Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
* Be at least eighteen years of age;
* Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard to his or her own safety and the safety of members Of the Brock Community and Public
* Be of good character.
Meet one of the following educational requirements:
* A university degree,
* A degree from a college of applied arts and technology established under the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 that is authorized to grant the degree, or
* A degree from an Indigenous Institute that is approved under the Indigenous Institutes Act, 2017 to grant the degree.
* The person has a diploma or advanced diploma granted by a college of applied arts and technology described in sub-subclause (ii) (b), or an Indigenous Institute described in sub-subclause (ii) (c), following successful completion of a program that is the equivalent in class hours of a full-time program of at least four academic semesters.
* The person has been granted a certificate or other document by a post-secondary institution evidencing successful completion of a program that the regulations prescribe as being equivalent to a degree or diploma described in subclause (ii) or
* Satisfies any additional educational criteria required by the regulations; and
* Satisfies any additional criteria that may be prescribed by regulation.
Must possess:
* An Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Constable or Special Constable Selection System Certificate of Results, or Ontario Police College Recruit Training Certificate;
* CPR, First Aid, AED certification;
* A Valid Police Clearance Certificate;
