Nanaimo is truly an extraordinary community that is home to Vancouver Island University and is rich in parks, recreational, cultural and social amenities.Natural Area TechnicianPosition OverviewThe City of Nanaimo is seeking two permanent full-time Natural Area Technicians. Under the general direction of the Manager, Park Operations, the incumbent is responsible for planning, undertaking and assigning maintenance and assessment work within the City?s natural area parks along with developed parks and streetscapes.QualificationsApplicants must have the following qualifications:Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management or related discipline from a recognized technical institute or equivalent. Minimum 1 year related environmental, biodiversity, natural resource or conservation planning/management experience. International Society of Arboriculture (I.S.A.) Certified Arborist. Certified Tree Risk Assessor certification. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver?s Licence. Possession of a valid BC Pesticide Applicator?s certificate.Additional InformationThis is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week. The hourly wage is $40.91, increasing to $43.06 upon successful completion of probation (Jan 2024 Rates).
