Job Description Nurse Practitioner-Regional, Permanent Full-Time, Mental Health and Addictions, Opioid Dependency Treatment (ODT) program, Queensway, Grand Falls WindsorDefinition of work:This is a regional position, reporting to the Director of Mental Health and Addictions, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing Opioid dependency treatment, mental health and addictions treatment and withdrawal management treatment to individuals of all ages with complex addictions and mental health needs. Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team using evidence-based approaches to the treatment of substance use. The Nurse Practitioner is an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. The successful candidate works independently in diagnosing conditions, prescribing medications including Methadone and Suboxone, performing or ordering diagnostic tests and treatments, evaluating treatments and providing follow-up care in liaison with the primary care physician, and other professionals. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive and holistic nursing care to clients including health promotion, injury and illness treatment and prevention, supportive, curative and rehabilitative care in a family practice setting. As an advanced practitioner, the Nurse practitioner functions in the roles of practitioner, educator and leader for the entire Mental Health & Addictions program. As governed by provincial regulations, he/she practices in collaboration with the primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive treatment for individuals experiencing addictions. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.The Nurse Practitioner will work with the multidisciplinary team to develop policy and procedures, as the OPT program is a new initiative for Central Health.Required qualifications:* Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program approved by Central Health* Current Nurse Practitioner License and registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador* Minimum of five years' experience working with clients with addictions at the Nurse Practitioner level within the last seven years* BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.* Ability to prescribe Methadone and Suboxone or willingness to complete the required training* Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills. * Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills.* Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in an interdisciplinary team environment.* A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.* Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.* A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.Preferred Qualifications:* Completion of CNA certification in psychiatry.Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly (Shift work may be required)Salary: NS-35 ($50.28-62.40)Competition number: P-2024001289-QSWYCompetition closing date: September 14, 2024Central Health is an equal opportunity employer.We thank all candidates however only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
