0.400 FTE Itinerant Elementary Counsellor (Teacher) <p>Inclusive Education This is a temporary assignment effective immediately to June 30, 2025 or to return of teacher to full contractual FTE whichever comes first. <p>The successful candidate will be part of the Inclusive Education department with responsibility for collaborating with elementary schools to support students with a range of social-emotional and behavioral needs. Counselling services may be provided to individuals and our groups and may involve referral to school-based or district-based personnel, to specialized services or programs, or to community resources.Qualifications: Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology recognized by the Teacher Regulation Branch (or a related discipline with a counselling focus)<p> Minimum of two years of successful classroom teaching experience<p> A senior level course and experience in Level B assessment;<p> Valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch. <p>Successful applicants should also possess the following skills and attributes: Previous successful experience as an Elementary School Counsellor;<p> Strong communication and time management skills;<p> Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish relationships with others based on mutual respect;<p> Successful experience working with at-risk children and families and facilitating access to preventive and/or intervention services<p> Significant training and experience working with families and children struggling with the impact of trauma;<p> Ability to build staff knowledge and skill in creating trauma-informed classrooms/schools;<p> Working knowledge of identification procedures and facilitating documentation for Special Education categories particularly Category H<p> Ability to work with school-based teams to develop behavior support plans and enhance the schools capacity for supporting students with challenging behavior;<p> Support students in the development of positive social skills in small group settings.<p> Work with school-based teams to develop appropriate educational and social programs to meet student needs <p> Consulting with parents, teachers and administrators to clarify student expectations and goals;<p> Consulting with district and community resource personnel and making student referrals as appropriate;<p> Small group and one-to-one counseling (complex cases to be referred to community-based clinicians)<p> Knowledge and experience in working with school-based teams to create competency-based IEPs;<p> Valid Class 5 drivers license and functional vehicle; <p>Questions regarding this position may be directed to Tanya Harrington, District VP of Student Wellness at tharring@sd83.bc.ca <p>How to Apply<p>Please submit resume with full supporting documents using the Apply Online button below.
