This position is open to all CUPE employees. <p> Preference will be granted in accordance with the Collective Agreement for CUPE local 1479 to permanent internal candidates. <p> Temporary employees will have their applications considered prior to external advertisement. Location <p> Site <p> FTE <p> Assignment <p> Kingston, ON Loyola School of Adult and Continuing Education <p> 0.75 FTE <p> Permanent Position <p> Effective September 3, 2024. <p> 6 hours/day <p> 5 days/week The ESL Instructor provides English as a Second Language instruction to adult immigrants in all aspects of the English language with an emphasis on oral communication. The Instructor communicates subjects about Canadian culture including Canadian history, geography, customs/traditions, idioms and laws to assist them with their integration into Canadian society.<p>Qualifications: Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent in Education and related experience;<p> Certification and experience Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL);<p> Certification and excellent understanding of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB Bootcamp minimum);<p> Training in Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA);<p> Familiarity with task-based assessment and documentation for all four language skills;<p> Experience/familiarity with HARTS would be an asset;<p> Previous experience delivering instructional programming to adults; including preparation and delivery of face-to-face AND online classes would be an asset;<p> Comfort with a continuous-intake environment;<p> Experience teaching multi-level classes would be an asset;<p> Experience with teaching all CLB levels would be an asset;<p> Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills;<p> Strong pedagogy, curriculum development and assessment skills;<p> Familiarity with learning management systems, such as D2L or Moodle would be an asset;<p> Ability to demonstrate good classroom management strategies;<p> Ability to motivate learners and be sensitive to culturally diverse backgrounds; <p> Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues and outside agents within a third party purchase-of-service environmentThe board is seeking candidates who demonstrate the following Core Competencies:<p> Flexible <p>Communication <p>Innovation <p>Interpersonal Relations <p>Leadership <p>Planning and Organization <p>Professional Integrity <p>System Thinking <p>As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must provide a Criminal Background Check (CBC) with vulnerable sector screening current within six months of date of hire.<p>At the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, we are guided by a strong system of values that promote dignity and respect for every individual.
