Northern Life Museum & Cultural Centre is an independent non-profit museum in Fort Smith, NT. We are professional, autonomous, creative and our goal is to promote the arts, culture, and preserve the history of the Thebacha region. The museum serves to promote educational, cultural, athletic and community endeavors in our small (but beautiful!) northern community. We sponsor cultural events and displays for all the citizens and visitors of the Northwest Territories.

\*\*Job Summary:\*\*
We are seeking a skilled Curator to join our team! The Curator will be responsible for managing and preserving our collections, overseeing exhibitions, and conducting research to enhance our organization's offerings.
\*\*Duties:\*\*
- Develop and maintain collections, ensuring proper documentation and storage
- Plan and curate exhibitions, including selecting artifacts and creating engaging displays
- Conduct research to expand knowledge of collections and support exhibition development
- Collaborate with staff to organize educational programs and events
- Write interpretive materials for exhibitions and publications
- Educate visitors on the significance of artifacts and collections
- Manage budgets for exhibitions and acquisitions
- Oversee the conservation and restoration of artifacts
\*\*Qualifications:\*\*
- Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Proven experience in curation, preferably in a museum or gallery setting through an internship or other field experience
- Experience in fundraising, and negotiations
- Strong knowledge of databases and metadata standards
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Customer service orientation with excellent communication skills
- Ability to lead projects and work effectively in a team environment
- Proficient in research methodologies and techniques
- Demonstrated leadership abilities in managing collections and exhibitions
- Experience in exhibit design, artifact research, and restoration techniques
