Education: Bachelor's degree. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Private clinical laboratories. Tasks: Collect blood, tissue or other samples from patients. Document observations on patients' specimens. Examine the results of the tests. Log patient samples and prepare them for testing. Set up medical laboratory equipment. Conduct routine laboratory tests and sample analyses. Clean and maintain medical laboratory and laboratory equipment. Discard specimens according to established safety procedures. Area of specialization: Biology. Venipuncture. Microbiology. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Ability to work independently. Hand-eye co-ordination. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Repetitive tasks. Fast-paced environment. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Attention to detail. Work under pressure.
